The short answer: book your dog’s holiday boarding four to six weeks ahead. Holiday weeks fill up faster than any other time of year at Royal Treatment, and the earlier you reserve, the better your chances of getting the dates you need.
Which holiday dates fill up first?
Two stretches are especially busy:
- The entire week of Thanksgiving. Families travel in and out of town all week, so boarding demand stays high from the Monday before Thanksgiving through the weekend after.
- The last three weeks of December. These weeks stay booked up, so reserving early is the best way to secure a suite.
If your plans include New Year’s, treat it the same way and reserve as soon as your travel dates are set.
The same goes for Mardi Gras, Spring Break and Easter. These weeks also fill up fast, so plan to reserve four to six weeks ahead for them too.
Why book four to six weeks ahead?
Holiday space is limited. We care for each dog in a private suite, so once the suites are full, we can’t add more. Booking four to six weeks out gives you the most options, lets you sort out vaccines without a last-minute scramble, and means one less thing to worry about while you plan your trip.
Get your reservation started
Every new client starts by creating a customer profile using the link at the top right of our website. Once your profile is set up, you can request a reservation or call us at 225.663.8223 with questions. You need a profile before we can book any service, so do this step first.
How the deposit works
To book any boarding reservation, a 20% deposit is required when your appointment is confirmed. During peak times like the holidays, there is a $10 increase. The deposit is fully refundable if you cancel at least 48 hours before your expected check-in date. For more details, read our holiday boarding deposit notice.
Check your dog’s vaccines early
Your dog needs current proof of rabies, DHPP and Bordetella (an annual shot is accepted), plus Lepto unless it is included in the DHPP. Vaccines must be given at least 24 hours before your appointment. Canine flu is recommended but not required. Ask your vet for the records well before your trip, because vet offices get busy around the holidays too.
Don’t forget grooming and baths
Spa appointments for baths and grooming also book up quickly in the weeks before and during the holidays. If you want your dog fresh and ready for guests or for pick-up after your trip, reserve your spa day when you reserve boarding. Learn more about our therapeutic spa and dog grooming in Baton Rouge.
